The history of FILTRA Timber

Per Stangegaard, Founder and Managing Director

Initially, FILTRA‘s vision was to foster trade between the Philippines and Denmark. Over the years, our focus sharpened to the import and distribution of high-quality wood products within the Philippines, a specialization we’re proud of today as FILTRA Timber.

Our story begins with Per Stangegaard, our founder, whose journey in the timber business started in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1975. By 1980, Per’s career led him to France, where he was instrumental in selling and promoting Far East logs, including Lauan logs from the Philippines. This connection brought him to the Philippines in 1983.

In 1985, Per took on the role of Asia responsible for Carl Ronnow A/S, establishing their presence in the Philippines that same year, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia two years later. Following the export ban on lumber and logs in the late 1980s, Per spent several years gaining further experience in Europe and Africa. His deep-rooted connection to the Philippines, however, called him back, leading to the founding of FILTRA.

Today, we proudly operate as FILTRA Timber, a name that clearly reflects our core business in wood. The name “FILTRA” itself is a blend of “FILippinerne” (the Danish name for the Philippines) and TRA, signifying both “trading” and referencing “TRÆ,” the Danish word for wood. Per Stangegaard continues to lead FILTRA Timber as its Managing Director. Our formally registered name is Philippine & Scandinavian design, FILTRA Inc., embodying Philippine and Scandinavian design principles, reliability and attention to detail.
