Denmark: Danish floor manufacturer Junckers recently hosted Leo Herrera-Lim, the Philippine ambassador to Denmark, at their headquarters in Køge, Zealand. During the visit, Ambassador Herrera-Lim was given a tour of the factory where Junckers produces hardwood basketball floors for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia this year.

“I’m glad to visit Junckers because they are a partner of the Philippines in hosting FIBA’s World Cup in 2023,” says Leo Herrera-Lim, the Philippine ambassador to Denmark. “In the short time I have spent here, Junckers has impressed me with their wood production. It’s some of the best I’ve seen in the world,” the Ambassador adds.

Back in 2021, Junckers signed a long-term agreement with FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, to serve as a ‘Global Supplier of Wood’ until 2024. Since signing the agreement, the company has supplied its latest generation of portable sports floors to the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket tournament. This year, the world’s best basketball players will step onto Junckers’ high-performing sports floors for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, which is co-hosted by the Philippines and will be held through late August and early September. Junckers is represented in the Philippines by FILTRA Timber (www.filtratimber.com) which has already installed a number of Junckers flooring in the Philippines, and carries inventory for quick delivery.

“The Filipinos are crazy about basketball,” Ambassador Leo Herrera-Lim explains. “That’s why we’re so excited to host the FIBA World Cup. It’s a rare opportunity and it will showcase the country and how much we admire the best players in basketball and appreciate being one of the competitors in the tournament.”

An important meeting

Besides a tour of the factory, Lars Gjødsbøl, CEO of Junckers, set aside time to introduce the Ambassador to the company and its strategy. Lars Gjødsbøl was pleased with the visit and felt very positive about the interest shown by the Ambassador. When asked about it, he commented:

“The meeting is extremely important because it taps into one of our focus segments, sports, and concerns a region where we see large growth potential. Furthermore, it builds on our investments in FIBA cooperation and our sponsorship of the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.”
